Biography

Rhoda Field was born in 1840 in Colerne.^[1][2] No christening/birth record has been found for Rhoda, but in the 1841 census she is listed as one year old in the following censuses she is consistently listed as being born in 1840 +/- 1 year. If her age on the 1841 census is accurate, then she was born between 7 June 1839 - 6 June 1840.

She was the daughter of Jacob Field (1805 - 1882) and Sarah Johnson (1803 - 1883).^[2][3]

She married George Moules on 20 August 1859 at St John the Baptist Church, in Colerne.^[4][5][6][7]

She died on 27 December 1933, at her home on Tutton Hill, in Colerne, aged about 93.^[8][9] She was buried on New Years Day 1934 at St John the Baptist Church, Colerne.^[10]

FUNERAL OF OLDEST INHABITANT AGED 93 YEARS

The funeral took place on Monday at the Parish Church with the Rector, Rev. H. W. St. Leger Chambers officiating, of the village's oldest inhabitant, Mrs. Rhoda Moules, widow of Mr. George Moules of The Bank, Tutton Hill. There were six sons and one daughter of whom all sons survive viz., Frederick, Jack, James, George, William, and Harry. There are also a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Though bedridden for some six or seven years, Mrs. Moules retained a clear mind and other faculties, and could listen with enjoyment to the wireless.

There were some beautiful floral tributes, and the mourners were: Messrs. Fred, Jack, George, William and Harry Moules (sons); Mr. S. Moules (grandson); Mr. and Mrs. W. Moules (grandson and daughter-in-law); Mrs. W. Jenkins and Miss P. Moules (granddaughter); Mrs. G. Moules (granddaughter-in-law); Mrs. Heath (niece); and Mr. Foster.

Great sympathy is felt for the eldest son, Mr. Fred Moules, who has lost son, wife, and mother, in very little more than two months. His son's (Frank age 46) death on October 10 in sad circumstances without doubt hastened the death of his wife, less than a month later, on November 5 at the age of 69.
