Biography

Briefly mentioned in Col. Stephen Clark's Civil War letters: "The weather was very warm and we halted to rest and forage the horses at a deserted but fine old residence the property of Dr. George Field. Passed Bellefield Station once famous as a rebel cavalry camp at 8:30. Crossed the Meherrin and entered Hicksford at 9 o’clock p.m. It seems to be a neat thriving little place the prettiest I have seen south of Petersburg."
