Biography

Hannah Field Moody was born on March 4, 1795, her first husband records as a Thomas Moody of Unity, New Hampshire. Hannah Field married Thomas Moody on December 31, 1817 at Newport, Grafton, New Hampshire. Thomas Moody passed away at 39 years of age on November 16, 1831.

Possible Marriage Record Error

Three years later, Hannah Field is recorded to have entered second marriage to Joseph Townes of Windsor, Vermont in 1820 three years later. However, there is scant evidence she actually married Joseph Townes; and may have been more a recorded filed intent to marry him; but instead married Thomas Moody. All recorded children of Hannah list Thomas Moody as the father of her four children; no children are recorded by Joseph Townes and Hannah Field Moody.

Recorded Children

Hannah Field Moody gave birth to her youngest child, Mary M. Moody Bixby on September 14, 1829 in Whitefield, Coos County, New Hampshire. Thomas Moody is considered to be father of all her children; Mary M Bixby Moody, Rebecca M. Moody, Thomas Plummer Moody, and Diana Moody. The discrepancy in marriage records; indicates mistake of record, a cancelled marriage to Joseph Townes, or possible late entry of record if she married Townes after death of her first husband, she briefly married Townes first, then Thomas Moody is also another possibility.

It states that Thomas Moody and Hannah Field were married in Newport, Grafton, New Hampshire. Please note that Newport is in Sullivan County. I grew up and was married in Newport, New Hampshire, so I know for a fact that Grafton County is incorrect.
