Biography

George was born in Glasgow, Scotland in1727. He passed away in Dublin, Ireland in 1805.


https://irishgenealogy.ie states that George was buried in St. Kevins graveyard 20 December 1805. p. 32 ‘The Clan Finley’ Second Edition, Revised and corrected 1956 Volume One. Compiled and Edited by Herald F.Stout, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy (Retired). Stout claims that George Finlay was born in 1727 in Glasgow but claims that George died young but with no date of death supplied. Stout refers to : ‘Ancient Records of Old Glasgow - Presbyterian Parish Record Society.

From Irish genealogy.ie - William Henry Finlay of Cornmarket, St. Catherine. Father - George Finlay, Mother - Susannah. This reference clearly shows that George Finlay was living at the Cornmarket in Dublin in 1772.

From Dublin City Archives, an email dated 5 March 2003, “ While searching for George and William Henry in the Freedom Rolls, fortunately I made a note of other Finlay’s who are very likely related, so the list between 1775 to 1820 is as follows:

George Finlay, Hosier, admitted by Special Grace, Michaelmas (Oct.) 1780. William Finlay, Hosier, admitted by Birth, Christmas 1782. William Henry Finlay, Hosier, admitted by Special Grace, MidSummer 1802. Edward Finlay, Hosier, admitted by Birth, Michaelmas 1807. John George Finlay, Hosier, admitted by Special Grace, Christmas 1813.”
