Major Valentine Fleming, DSO (1882 – 20 May 1917) was a British Conservative Member of Parliament who was killed in World War I.[1]
Valentine Fleming was born in 1882 in Newport, Fife, Scotland.[2][3][4] His parents were Robert and Sarah Fleming.[2]
In 1891, Valentine Fleming (9) was living in Chislehurst, Kent, with parents Robert Fleming (45) and Sarah Fleming (32) and siblings Dorothy (7), Kathleen (5) and Philip (1).[2]
In 1901, Valentine Fleming (19) was living in Chislehurst, Kent, England, with his mother Sarah K Fleming (38).[3]
Valentine Fleming married Evelyn Beatrice St. Croix Rose on 31 Jan 1906 at St Paul, Knightsbridge.[5]
In 1911, Valentine Fleming (29) and Evelyn Fleming (25) were living in Reading, Berkshire, with children Peter (4), Ian (3) and "George" (1 month, subsequently Richard), and twelve domestic servants. He was Member of Parliament.[4]
Valentine and Evelyn subsequently had one more son, Michael.[1]
Valentine Fleming was a member of the UK Territorial Force. He received his commission as Second Lieutenant on 30 Jun 1908 in the Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars.[6] He was with the regiment when they went to France in 1914, and shortly after promoted to major. He was killed in action during World War I on 20 May 1917. He was buried at Templeux-le-Guerard British Cemetery, Somme, Picardie, France.[7]
