Biography
William Carman Fletcher was born on February 24, 1882 in Niagara, Lincoln, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of clergyman Rev. William Myles Fletcher (1851-1885) and Caroline Link (1855- 1940).[1] His father William died when he was a small child.
In 1901, William (age 19), was a single son, in the household of Caroline Fletcher (age 46, widowed) in Haldimand, Ontario, Canada. He had two brothers: Chrysler (age 20), and Carson (age 16). They were of Methodist faith, and their origin was marked as German.[2]
In 1911, William C Fletcher (age 29, farmer, single), was head of household in Wentworth Sub-Districts 16-55, Ontario, Canada. He was living with his mother Caroline (age 57), and Fred Whatling (age 13, labourer). William identified as French, and his mother German.[3]
William (29) married Mary Gertrude Dickenson (29) (born on March 15, 1882 in Glanford, Wentworth, Ontario; daughter of John Urwin Dickenson and Hannah Angela (Young) Dickenson) on February 1, 1912 in Hamilton, Wentworth.[4] Their children were:
- Donald Dickenson Fletcher, 1912-2002
- Unnamed Infant, son, 1914-1914
- Ruth Caroline Fletcher, 1915-2002
- Roy Carman Fletcher, 1918-1918
- John Urwin Fletcher, 1921-2011
In the 1931 census William (age 49), Farmer/dairy farm, was the married head of household with three children in Glanford, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada.[5]
William died about 1955 in Ontario, aged about 72.[6]
