James was born about 1813 the son of Orkneyman, George Flett Sr. a HBC employee and Margaret (Peggy) Whitford an English Half-Breed. James, his wife Chloe (Bird, b. 1815), and four children, were members of the James Sinclair-led group. His wife died during childbirth in 1842 Deceased in 1843 - Columbia River, Oregon Territory, USA, aged 30 years old Their children were adopted out to various families
