Biography

Tom Waddell, born Thomas Flubacher (1937-1987) was an Olympic decathlete, founder of the Gay Games and social rights activist.

As a member of the United States Olympic Track and Field Team, Waddell finished sixth in the decathlon at the Olympics in Mexico City in 1968. He went on to organize the Gay Olympic Games in 1982, with the name later changed to the Gay Games for political reasons.

He was adopted by Hazel and Gene Waddell after his parents divorced.[1]

He died as a result of AIDS.
