Margaret was born about 1814, the daughter of Peter Folliard and Mary.

Baptism: 10 August 1814, Naas Catholic Parish, Kildare, Ireland. Baptism Sponsors: John Howard and Mary Nowlan. The baptism register says 'Margaret P. Peter Folliard and Mary Folliard' while the other baptisms on that page give the unmarried names for mothers e.g. 'P. Christopher Dempsey and Anne Dunn' and 'P. Martin Hamilton and Anne Keogh'. This suggests that Margaret's mother Mary's name before marriage may have been Folliard. ^{[1] [2]}
