LAD ACCIDENTALLY SHOT Carlinville, June 3 - The 5-year-old son of John Fones, living south of Carlinville, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning from the effects of an accident which occurred yesterday afternoon.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock this afternoon, and the remains were interred in the Mees [sic] cemetery.
The death of the lad was deplorable. He went to the field where his father was at work, and, while at play, abstracted a revolver from a pocket of his father's coat which was lying on the ground. While toying with the weapon, it was discharged. The bullet penetrated the little fellow's stomach and passed out through one thigh.
The wound was promptly dressed by a physician, and every effort was made to assuage the pain but the boy dies early this morning in intense agony.
