Mary Fontaine Yancey, 82, Staunton, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at her residence.

Mrs. Yancey was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Wythe County and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Wade and Julia Moore Fontaine.

She was a graduate of Wytheville High School, attended Madison College for two years and graduated from Radford College with a degree in elementary education. She taught school in Wythe County, Lynchburg, Waynesboro and Augusta County. She was a member of the Young Mother's Club, Diane Holt Hospital Auxiliary, Col. Thomas Hughart DAR and Hebron Presbyterian Church.

In 1948, she married Layton William Yancey, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Heather Yancey Pens of Seattle, Wash., and Patricia Y. Clark of Fishersville;

a brother, John Fontaine of Wytheville; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. today at Hebron Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
