Written account by Louisa's Granddaughter, Wauneta Hoadley Atterbury, my Grandmother.
As a young girl, Louisa travelled across Ohio and Illinois with her family by covered wagon to reach Iowa. Like many early Midwest settlers she endured many experiences and hardships that are hard to believe. She took pride in telling about the Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas debate, 1858, in Springfield, Illinois and watching her brothers march off to the Civil War with the Union Army.
