Biography

Peter Lars Fosberg was born with the name Per Larsson on 24 Mar 1860 in Ekshärad, Värmlands, Sweden to Lars Persson and Anna Sonesdotter

Between 1881-1885, Per Larsson changes his name to Fosberg when he does his military service as a conscript soldier.

1888 Peter Fosberg (Per Larsson) is on record to move to America, but his name is crossed out and he moved to Leksand, Dalarna, Sweden.

On 20 Jun 1891 Peter married Anna Andersdaughter in Djura, Kopparberg, Sweden. Their engagement on 6 May 1891 was approved by the Church.

On 11 Aug 1891 Peter and Anna were recorded by the church to move to America.

On 21 Aug 1891 Peter and Anna boarded a ship Ariosto in Gothenburg to Hull, England. It is important to note that they were headed to Spokane Falls directly.

On 5 Sep 1891, Peter and Anna arrived on a ship named City of Berlin from Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland in New York to start their journey to Spokane Falls

His daughter Anna Lena was born on August 25, 1893, in Washington.

His daughter Amanda C. was born on September 27, 1894, in Washington.

His daughter Mabel was born in 1896 in Washington.

His daughter Ellen E. was born in 1897 in Washington.

His son Alfred Ephrium was born on September 22, 1898, in Washington.

The 1900 Census places the Fosberg family in Mount Carleton, Spokane County, Washington where Peter owned a farm, spoke English and spent 0 months unemployed.

By About 1905, there are pictures of the farm in Elk, Washington with the home Peter built.

The Fosberg Homestead

Peter Lars' mother Anna Sonesdotter passed away on July 3, 1917, in Ekshärad, Värmland, Sweden, at the age of 81.

In 1920 they are on the census as living in Elk, Washington. This is where we discover he was naturalized in 1906, he owned his farm with no mortgage. He and Anna spent the rest of their lives on the land and farmed to support themselves.

His wife Anna passed away on May 1, 1935, in Elk, Washington, at the age of 75.

His daughter Anna Lena passed away on July 27, 1936, in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 42.

In 1940 the Census shows Alfred Fosberg, his son, his granddaughter, Goldie A. and great granddaughter, Joanne L. Gilbert living with him.

His daughter Ellen E. passed away on August 8, 1941, in Spokane County, Washington, at the age of 44.

On 29 Jul 1947 Peter died and was buried in Elk, Washington at the Elk Cemetery next to Anna.[1]
