James Monroe Foster was born on January 29, 1846 in Fayette County, Alabama, United States, son of Anthony Edward Foster (1814–1885) and Mary A. M. King (1815–1871).
James married Martha Louiza Thompson (born on January 25, 1848 in , Fayette, Alabama). Their children were:
James served in the Civil War. He was a member of Company (I or 1), 8th Alabama Calvary, CSA. (Tombstone inscription - photograph may be found using FindAGrave link below.
James died on November 5, 1907 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, United States, aged 61. He was buried in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Reid, Calhoun County, Mississippi.[1]
