Biography

"Jn' Foulke Born 12. mo. 21. day 1722" (21 Feb, 1722). His birth is recorded at the Gwynedd Meeting[1] and the Richland, Meeting.[2] John was born in Gwynedd, which was part of Philadelphia County until 1784, when it became Montgomery County, or Richland, part of Bucks County, Province of Pennsylvania.

John was a member of the Richland Monthly Meeting of Friends. 8th month of 1752, John Foulke went on a trading voyage to Barbadoes. He was granted a certificate to meetings in Barbadoes. When he returned, in 1654, he brought with him a certificate from Bridgetown, Barbadoes, giving an account of his good conduct there.[3]

John married 10-14-1755 (14 Oct 1755) at the Richland Mo. Mtg. Mary Roberts.[3]

He kept a "Book of Register for ye purpose of Recording Births and Burials" beginning 20 Nov 1755. He was on committees of the meeting and was name Elder in 1762. He represented the Meeting of Ministers and Elders at Quarterly Meeting in 1762m, 1764, and almost continuously between 1767 and 1778. 5th mo. 20, 1762, he was appointed to build an "apartment of stone at the North end of the Meeting House 26 by 40 feet within." And in 1766, the meeting appointed him to transcribe the certificates of marriage etc. He was also made a trustee of the "Bolton lot" site of the first meeting house.[3]

He was a member of the Province of Pennsylvania Assembly representing Bucks County from 1769-1775.[3]

John was a smith. He died 25 May 1787.[3]
