THE LATE MRS. C. H. HIGGS.

On Tuesday, 14th inst., Carcoar lost one of its eldest and most esteemed residents, in the person of Mrs Charles Henry Higgs. The lamented lady, who was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fox, was born at Parramatta in 1841, consequently she was in her 78th year. She took up her residence in Carcoar with her parents seventy years ago, and since then had been practically a continuous resident of the place. In 1860 she was married to Mr. C. H. Higgs, by whom she was predeceased by about sixteen years. Being of an active temperament she was intimately associated with every movement promoted for the betterment of the community amongst whom her lot had been cast, and being of a kindly and sympathetic disposition, her friends were legion. As a devout member of the Presbyterian Church she was ever to the fore in doing all in her power to advance its interests. The grand old lady had eleven children, the surviving members of which are Mrs. J. M. G. Tucker, Cowra ; Mrs. H. R. Woolley, Blayney ; Messrs Arthur and George Higgs, Carcoar; Chas. F. Higgs, Kiama; and Ernest Higgs, Woodstock. She also leaves twenty-two grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren. During her declining years the venerable lady was comforted by the affectionate devotion of her grand-daughter, Miss Marjorie Tucker. During a short service conducted by Mr. A. Gibbins, at the late residence of the deceased on Wednesday, just prior to the removal of the remains to their last resting place in the Presbyterian cemetery, two of the old lady's favorite hymns were sung. We deeply sympathise with the bereaved family in their time of sorrow.
