Research Note

The Fox Y-DNA Surname Project on FTDNA has found that "a descendant of Richard Fox Sr. (1641-1708), of Glastonbury, CT, matches ... a descendant of Vaniah Fox (-aft.1790), who married Abigail Cadwell in Glastonbury, CT, in 1748." The exact connection is however unknown. Most interestingly, both of those Y-DNA tests also closely match a descendant of Francis Harry Fox (abt.1849-), who has now been traced back to Walter Fox (abt.1690-abt.1735), born in about 1690 in Minterne Magna, Dorset. As the majority of 17th century emigrants to Massachusets and Connecticuts came from Dorset, Somerset and Devon, it is not particularly surprising to find a connection to a Dorset Fox. Further research is currently ongoing to trace that line further back to possibly identify the common ancestor and the emigrant. It would also be helpful to identify living descendants of that Dorset Fox family still in the area for further Y-DNA testing to confirm the connections.

Fox-25520 and Fox-317 appear to represent the same person because: Same individuals, though Fox-25520 has additional information from Donald Lines Jacobus that can be merged into Fox-317.

Why is there a note about disputed parents of Richard Smith in this profile??? I think it should be removed as Richard Fox has nothing to do with Richard Smith.

Profile for Richard Fox incl his will in bio section, no rationale to morph this into Abraham Fox

I have removed my ancestor Thomas Fox and his 1st. wife Rebecca Wheat as the parents of Richard Fox of Glastonbury, Connecticut until someone can produce official documentation citing that they were Richard's parents.

I do not believe that the Richard Fox of Glastonbury, Connecticut line is a part of the Thomas Fox of Concord, Massachusetts line. They are two different families all together.

I do not believe that this person is a child of Thomas Fox of Concord and either of his wives. There is much documentation for Thomas of Concord's descendants and there is no Richard listed as a son. However, there were several Fox families in NE at about the same time and Richard probably belongs to one of them.
Fox-317 and Fox-5053 appear to represent the same person because: Varying dates have been listed for death.  ? Death vs Burial. WIthout other relationships listed this can be merged to one individual.
Fox-334 and Fox-317 appear to represent the same person because: WIfe's name varies in records as Bethiah and Beriah, but is the same person.
