Birth and Immigration

John Franke MD has roots in the region now known as Sachsen, Germany.

John was born on 3 October1836 at Saxony, Germany. According to the 1900 census, He was a naturalized citizen of the United States and had immigrated from Germany in 1851.^[1]

Marriage and Children

John married Olive Thurston, the daughter of David and Catherine (Fuller) Thurston on 7 October 1866 at DuPage, Illinois. ^[2]They had four children born at Illinois:

1. Ada Jane Franke (b. 1867; d. 1898)
2. Emilia Franke (b. 1872; d. 1898) m.
3. Frederick Christian "Fred" Franke, MD (b. 1874; d. 22 Apr 1959, IN)^[3] m. 12 Feb 1902 at Chicago, IL, Amanda Timke (1879-1956)
4. Ellen "Ella" Louisa Franke (b. 1880; d. 1893)

In 1880, John (38 years [sic], b. Germany, occupation Physician) and Olive (36 years) and their children Ada Jane (12 years), Emilia (7 years), Fred (5 years) and Ellen Louisa (newborn) were living at Addison, DuPage, Illinois.^[4]

Death and Burial

John G. Franke, MD, died on 17 October 1920 in his 84th year at Hinsdale, and is buried in Fullersburg Cemetery at Hinsdale, DuPage, Illinois.^[5]
