Obituary
Chester Irvin Frantz, 95, peacefully passed away to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, whom he served most of his entire adult life. His home-going happened at 1:30am Tuesday, the 25th of February, 2020 in the home of his daughter, Judy TenBroeck, in Ponte Vedra, Florida. Around his bed were most of his children and wife who commended his spirit to God and then they sang a few hymns in celebration. Chet was born the 30th of June, 1924 in Tutuila, Western Samoa. His mother Margaret Meredith, being of the royal Tui Manua line, married a US Navy man, Paul, who was stationed in Samoa during WW1. They then immigrated to California where Chet studied engineering at UCLA, and joined the US Navy at the end of WWII. Upon discharge at the end of the war, he married Marge Cook of Boston, studied at Gordon Conwell in MA, then Fuller Seminary in CA. After his education, Chet pastored churches in Maine and New Mexico, then studied linguistics, joining Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1956, allocating to Papua New Guinea for over 28 years, to translate the New Testament into the Gadsup language and where they raised their family. Upon leaving New Guinea, Chet and Marge built a home in Waxhaw NC and lived there for another 30 years serving JAARS, a branch of Wycliffe before moving to their daughter's ranch in Florida where they have lived for most of the past three years. Chet is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie Elaine (Cook), and sister Margaret Murphy. Chet's descendants include 5 children: David with wife Doreen, Cathy with husband Bob Drost, Paul, with wife Ellen, Judy with now deceased Stuart TenBroeck and Debbie with her husband, Von Weisheit.
