In the death of Mr. Harold Frith, who passed away at the hospital late on Saturday, Lithgow has lost , a popular and prominent personality. Aged 58 years, Mr. Frith died following a sudden heart attack at his home in Academy-street, from where he was rushed to hospital. He had been in poor health for
two years. Many local organisations will mourn his passing, for in the 35 years he resided in Lithgow he took an active part in local affairs and was renowned in his younger days, as one of the city's leading sportsmen, particularly at tennis. An active church worker, Mr. Frith devoted much time to the small church in Academy-street. particularly to the , Sunday School. He was also a
prominent Mason. He had been secretary . of Robert Bums' Royal Arch Chapter and a member of Lodge Lithgow Kilwinning and James Colley Temperance for a great number of years. It was because of poor health that he was compelled to resign as secretary of Robert Burns Royal Arch Chapter.
Mr. Frith, who had been a J,P. for many years, did yeoman work for St. John's Ambulance and it was perhaps in this regard that he was best known in the city. He was as sociated with St. John's Ambulance for a considerable
time and was a popular worker among his colleagues in the organisation.
Mr. Frith migrated to Australia in 1915 from Toxteth Park, a suburb of Liverpool, Lancashire. On arrival he enlisted in the 1st A.I.F., serving with the
famous 2nd Battalion for over two years before being discharged to do munitions' work in the barrel section of Lithgow Small Arms Factory.
When World War I. ended, Mr. Frith made Lithgow his home and remained at the S.A.F. In later years he worked at the Factory as a clerk. Sincere sympathy will be extended to Mrs. Frith and to Mr. Phillip Frith (son) and Mrs. J. Triplett (daughter), both of Lithgow. The funeral service took place this morning at St.
Paul's Church of England, conducted by the Rev. J. Mills (rector), followed by cremation at Rookwood Crematorium at midday. Funeral directors were Matthews and Lemon.
