Biography

George Frost was born in Westham, Sussex, England.

George Edward Frost was born on 22 Feb 1876 in Westham, Sussex, England to John Levi Frost and Sophia Carley.[1] He was baptised on 1 Mar 1874 in Westham.[2]

Early Life

When he was young, he was living with his parents in Chalvington, Sussex.[3]

Cannot located him on the 1891 England Census at this time.

Navy Career

George enlisted with the Royal Navy as a stoker on 4 Dec 1895. He gave his birthdate as 22 Feb 1876 although it was actually 1874. His original service number was 281295 but was later changed to 321535.

George was in the navy for just over 23 years. During this time he served on a number of different ships including:

HMS Hood   1897-1900   Mediterranean Sea
HMS Prince George   1903-1904   Channel Fleet
HMS Majestic   1904-1906   Atlantic Fleet
HMS Albemarle   1914-1916   Northern Patrol

Fortunately for George, he doesn't seem to have served in any major battles during World War I. His last day with the Navy was 30 Jun 1919 at the age of 45.

Married Life

George married Adelaide Smith on 20 Dec 1903 at St James church in Milton, Portsmouth, Hampshire.[4] [5] They did not have any children.

In 1911, they were living in a 4-room house in Portsmouth.[6] As George was still in the Navy, we can assume that he was working at a shore station at the time. Adelaide filled out the form and stated that George was from Brightling, Sussex when it was actually his mother who was from Brightling.

By 1932 they were living in Yarmouth, where Adelaide was from. She died in 1932. He had been working as an ice factory foreman at the time.[7]

George reamined in Yarmouth after his wife's death.[8]

George Edward Frost died in Jan 1943 in Yarmouth, Norfolk.[9] He was buried on 21 Jan 1943 in the Yarmouth Old Cemetery where his wife was also buried.[10] He was 68 years old.
