Biography

Victor Morwick Fry was born in 12th June 1921 in Northcote, Victoria, Australia. He was the son of Victor Fry and Anne Parkin. [1] His father died when Victor was just ten years old.

On 27th October 1941, Victor enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force (AIF) for military service during the Second World War; listing his mother as next-of-kin. He was posted to the 108th General Transport Company. Hoping to improve his prospects of seeing action, he discharged from the AIF on 2nd February 1944 [2] and enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) the following day, once more listing his mother as next-of-kin; there then being no transfer system between the services. He was posted to the 5th Operational Training Unit Williamstown and the 8th Operational Training Unit Parkes. [3]

Victor Fry was killed in a training accident in Parkes NSW during the Second World War.

Victor, then holding the senior non-commissioned rank of Sergeant, was killed in an operational training accident at Parkes on 24th June 1945. He is buried in the Parkes General Cemetery. He was just 24 years 12 days of age. [4] Victor Morwick Fry's name is located at panel 112 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. [5] Following the war his family was issued his campaign and service medals: 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
