The memorial marker at his grave site reads:

" Sacred to the memory of John H. Fulmer who was born July 6th, 1831, and died from a wound received at the battle of Chickamauga, on 29th October, 1863, aged 32 years, 3 months, 23 days. He was a member of Co. I, 15th Regmt, SCV, and by his integrity, uprightness and bravery was promoted by his comrades to the office of Lieutenant and died lamented as he had lived beloved by all.
