Notes

John Funk was born either Bucks or Northampton County, Pennsylvania mostly likely before 1770.  He married Mary Rader in Frederick County, Virginia on Oct 23, 1792.  He first appears on the Tithable Tables of Rockingham County in 1793.  In January of 1794 he and Henry his brother are named administrators of his father's estate.  Henry died intestate.  Henry's brother-in-law Ulrick Showalter appraised the property for the court.  By 1810 census Mary had passed on leaving John to raise their eight children.  John according to family tales served in the War of 1812 though I can find no record of his service.  On February 20, 1816 John bought 348 acres of land from James Ewing of Jessamine County, Kentucky for 80.  He paid for the property by taking out a trust deed for 13 years.  Since his occupution was wagon-making in 1819 part of that year's payment was a wagon.  He completed the payments for the land five years early.  On April 14, 1828 John sold the land to his two youngest sons Joseph and John R or Jr. for one dollar.  His other sons Samuel and Martin had left earlier that year for Perry County, Ohio.  In 1830 John was living with his daughter Nancy Funk Britton and her husband Nathanial.  On November 3, 1831 Joseph and John R sold the farm to Nathanial Britton and with John traveled to Logan County, Ohio probably with John's youngest brother Daniel Funk.  Joseph and John R moved from there to Wayne County, Ohio.  In 1832 John purchased 152 acres of land in Miami township, Logan County, Ohio.  Martin joined him there and Samuel arrived at this homestead in the fall.  In October 6, 1833 he sold the land in Logan County to John Click for 0.  On November 6, 1833 Martin purchased 80 acres of land from the federal government for 0 in Allen County, Ohio.  Two days later Samuel purchased the adjoining 80 acres from the state of Ohio for 0.  John and his sons remained on this land till July 12, 1841 when Martin sold his property to Peter Faze and moved his family and John to Henry County, Indiana.  Samuel remained in Allen County for the rest of his life.  Sometime during 1842 John passed on while living in Indiana near his sons Martin, Joseph, and John R.
