Biography

Hannon Robertson Fuqua (1818 - Unknown, Bef. 1890) FamilySeach_ID MK44-VS3 His name is also spelled Hannan in source documents.

Marriage to Sarah L. Branch

On 21 Dec 1840 in Chesterfield, Virginia, 21-year-old Hannon R. Fuqua married 17-year-old Sarah L. Branch (1823 - 1 Feb 1890) FamilySearch_ID KLXY-GZ5, daughter of Thomas Branch.

9 Known Children: 4 daughters and 5 sons

Together Hannan and Sarah Branch Fuqua had 9 known children, all of whom were born in the Manchester district of Chesterfield County, Virginia, However, only 7 of the children survived to become adults. Very little is known about their daughter, Indianna G Fuqua and even less is known about their son, Henry.

  • Over the years there has been intermixing of the records concerning William R. Fuqua and William F Fuqua (son of William Giles Fuqua). There are several reasons why this happened. Both men were born within couple years of each other and within miles of each other in Chesterfield, Va. Even though the certificate of death for William R. Fuqua records his father as Hannon Fuqua, the translator translated his name as "Harrison"; his mother's name is correctly listed as Sarah Branch.

There are two variations of the spelling of his middle name. Engraved on his tombstone is "Robinson." I believe that this is an incorrect translation of the name listed on his death certificate It is difficult to read the cursive writing but, I believe it to be "Roberson." This profile strongly suggests that William's middle name should be spelled ROBERTSON; as this links him directly to his father, Hannon Robertson Fuqua, and to his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth 'Betsy' Robertson. I can not provide definitive proof of this claim.

In chronological order the 9 known children are as follows:

  • 1. William Robertson Fuqua (28 Sept 184 - 17 Feb 1926) Age 84; Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, Va., Find A Grave: Memorial #7979610.
