Francis William Gardiner was born on May 17, 1905, in Lang Lang, Victoria. He was the son of Dave Gardiner and Mary Patullo. He married Eva May Nicholls in 1929 in Victoria. They had three children during their marriage. He died on April 6, 1990, in his hometown, at the age of 84.
