Biography

In the Leonard Headley genealogy it states that Thomas Gardner Sr., only son of Henry Gardner, was born at Westchester, N.Y. about 1700, lived and died there. He was married to Sarah, daughter of William and Sarah Smith. He made his will Apr. 21, 1732, and died in 1733. His children were: Thomas, Benjamin, Hannah, Elizabeth, Sarah.[1]

His father John Gardner's will, dated Dec. 26, 1710, read: "John Gardner of Westchester, to loving wife Hannah, all movable estate...until my son Thomas shall come of age; but if my sd. relict should marry, then she shall resign up ye remainder of my above recited movables with the house and land which shall be put into ye full possession of my son Thomas; and also my seven acres of meadow."[2]

The executors of Thomas Gardner's will, "late of Westchester, dec'd, to Samuel Warren; lands in possession of sd. Thomas Gardner immediately before his death; with the half of a 25 pound privelege, given to the sd. Thomas Gardner by his honoured father, John Gardner, late of Westchester, dec'd., by deed dated Dec. 26, 1710." [executed Mch. 22, 1732, i.e. 1733].[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
