John (Garland) Graham (1873 - 1944)

Biography

He is the son of David Graham and Isabella Garland. ^[1]

When Jack was born in 1873, his birth registration showed his Family Name as Garland, (with mother as Isabella and father as David), and no given names recorded.^[2] Some years after his parents married (in 1879) Jack's birth was re-registered to reflect a change to his family name as Graham and on this registration,^[3] his given names are shown as George Edward. It appears that he was always known to the family as "Jack", using the more formal "John" when required. On the occasion of his marriage to Jean McNicol in 1899^[4] and subsequently to Jessie McNicol in 1915,^[5] records list him as "John Graham". At the time of his death, however, records list him as "George Edward Graham".^[6]
