Unknown Abt. 1847.She was born Abt. 1828 in Unknown, and died Abt. 1865 in Leicester, Buncombe County, N.C.. Notes for Marcus D. Lafayette Garman: This is my great-great grandfather Garmon (Gorman). He is listed in Civil War Army records as from Buncombe County. Was a private as of August 6,1861, 29th Regiment NC Troops CSA, and was 35 years old putting his birth abt. 1826. He died, June 24 or 25,1862 of "fever", at Cumberland Gap, Tenn, on a stage coach while making his way home from the Civil War battle fields. (source: Asheville News article printed Oct. 30, 1862) The 1860 census shows Lafayette and Mary with the children they were known to have. The 1850 census shows M.F.D. Garman, age 23 and Mary, age 22, along with their children Issac and Laura. I think this ancestor was named after the great French soldier and American Revolutionary War hero Major General Marquis de Lafayette as he had made a return trip to the U.S. in 1924 to a hero's welcome. Notes for Mary J. Unknown:
