Biography

Henry Garner was a Virginia colonist.

Henry Garner was born in 1740 (others say about 1716: see also Research Notes) in Westmoreland, Virginia, the son of Jane and Henry: his father's 30 Mar 1751 Westmoreland County will names Henry, Vincent and Joyce as children, as well as their mother, Jane.^[1]

Henry had seven sons with Mary (Unknown) between 1750 and 1780. He died in 1811 in Anderson, South Carolina, at the age of 71 (age at death is unconfirmed; needs citation).

Research Notes

• A Henry Garner is included in a Rowan County North Carolina Tax List, being charged 621 pounds in Captain D Smith's District. (No year is stated on the image, thus we cannot know for sure if this is the correct generation of Henry.)
• A Find A Grave: Memorial #173079808 makes it unclear whether a generation of Henry Garner is missing, as Henry Garner (1716-28 Feb 1786) is described as son of Henry Garner Jr (1689-1751) and Jane (Gatley) Garner (1689-1745). Henry Garner (1716-1786) is described as husband of Mary (Adair) Garner (1716-1786) and the father of William, Henry, Vincent and Joyce. Thus, it is unknown exactly where the conflation may lie (see also the citation regarding the present Henry's father's will).
