Biography

Belle Garner, born on May 11, 1860, in Quitman, Van Buren County, Arkansas, was the daughter of William Wakefield Garner and Henrietta (Humphry) Garner. Census records from 1860 and 1870 place her in Cadron Township, Van Buren County, Arkansas, near the Quitman post office during her early years.

On December 30, 1876, Belle married James Robert Cazort in Van Buren County, Arkansas. The couple built a life together, and by 1900, they resided on Church Street in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. Belle's presence continued to be felt in Pittsburg Township, Johnson County, Arkansas, as reflected in the 1910 and 1920 census records, where she lived on Hogansville Street and Cazort Street, respectively.

As the matriarch of the Cazort family, Belle witnessed the growth and diversification of their business empire, known as Cazort Brothers, which spanned land, lumber, livestock, cotton, and mercantile trade throughout Arkansas and neighboring states.

In the later years of her life, Belle lived in Lamar, Johnson County, Arkansas, before passing away on February 24, 1930, in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, due to acute cholangitis. Her final resting place is the Cazort Cemetery in Lamar, Johnson County, Arkansas, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with the dynamic history of the Cazort family.
