Birth & Upbringing: Susanna was born about 1831. It is believed that she was the daughter of Henry and Susanna (nee Bowen) Garrett, by virtue of a baptism at St George Hanover Square on 15 April 1832. [1]. Sadly, both of Susanna's parents died in 1838 and she was orphaned, which possibly tells why she was found at St Peter Square Albion House, Hammersmith in 1841, along with, possibly a cousin, Rachel Bowen, daughter of William and Rachel Bowen.
Marriage and Own Family: Susanna married Henry Salter at St Mary the Less, Lambeth . [2] Together they raised six children: Henry, Arthur, Clara, Helena, William and Ernest.
Education: If the identity is correct, then she was a pupil at St Peter Square Albion House, Hammersmith, Kensington, London & Middlesex, England [3] Known Residences: St Peter Square Albion House, Hammersmith, Kensington, London & Middlesex, England [3]; Old Compton Street, Saint Anne Westminster, Strand, London & Middlesex, England [4]; Aldred Road, St Mary Newington, St Saviour Southwark, London & Surrey, England; [5] 41, Warrior Road, Lambeth, London & Surrey, England; [6] Demise: Susanna passed away aged in 1908 at Wandsworth, London. Research Notes
There is a Susanna Garrett on the 1841 Census at St Peter Square Albion House, Hammersmith, Kensington, London & Middlesex, England... interesting to note that there is a Rachel Bowen listed next to her. Both girls are described as pupils, so this must have been a school. Coincidence of names? Was Rachel a sister? [3]
There are two interesting 1851 Census records, in general proximity, for a Susanna Garrett - one where she is a bar maid and the other where she is staying with a grandmother called Sarah Beach b. 1777 Sussex. The birth year for Susanna is out, but they occasionally they are by one year. This might infer that the Susanna's mother was of maiden name Beach. [4]
