Birth & Upbringing: Robert was born in Sussex in 1950.[1]. He was the son of Neil Gash and Frances Wills.
Family: Robert married Beverley and together they had a son David.
Education Robert was educated at Froebel School, Sussex and then Nairobi Primary, Nyeri and Duke of York School in Kenya. He did his secondary education in Australia at Churchlands School. His tertiary education was at Natal University, and he also did a course at Gwebi Agricultural College, obtaining a diploma in Agriculture.
Occupation: Policeman - joined the BSA Police in July 1973; Reg.No.9024; served until February 1979. He served on stations in Bindura, Shamva and Mt Darwin, before transferring to CID. As a plain clothes officer he was stationed at Salsibury and Mt Darwin and also did service at CID HQ.
Demise: Killed in Action - vehicle ambush while serving as a Detective Section Officer with Criminal Investigation Department in Mt Darwin, (Operation Hurricane). [2] [3].
Burial: Robert Gash was buried in Umtali following a semi-military funeral service on 21 February 1979. [4]
