Hannah (Gaskin) Wilson is a part of US Black heritage.

Hannah Isabelle Gaskin was born on July 24, 1869 at El Dorado, Butler, Kansas. She was the daughter of Benjamin Gaskin and Martha Hansom.[1]

On 20 August 1889, at the age of 18, she married William Wilson in Independence, Montgomery, Kansas, United States.[2][1]

They would have ten children:[1]

  • James Luther Wilson (1891-1974)
  • David Wilson (1894-
  • George Asberry Wilson (1896-1964)
  • Carrie Marie Wilson (1900-1984)
  • John Wilson (1902-1987)
  • Mary Frances Wilson (1904-1987)
  • Elizabeth W. Wilson (1907-1994)
  • Alice Ruth Wilson (1909-1991)
  • Mammie Wilson (1910-1963)
  • Viola Wilson (1914-2003)

In the 1900 United States Census, William (29) and Hannah Wilson (26), were living in Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory with their children, Luther (8), David (5), George (3) and infant Carrie. Cora Powers (11), step-daughter of William was also living with them. William, Hannah and Luther's place of birth was listed as Kansas, while the others was listed as Indian Territory.[3]

In the 1910 United States Census, William (44) and Hannah J (42), and children Jim L (18), David (16), George (13), Carrie (10), John (7), Mary F (4), Elisabeth (3) and Alice (1) were farming in Black Dog, Osage County, Oklahoma. In this census, Indian Territory place of birth is now listed as Oklahoma. The family [4]

In the 1915 Kansas State Census, Hannah (48) and William (49) were living in Independence, Montgomery County, Kansas with all 10 of their children, ranging in age from 21 to new born. The youngest, Viola, was born in Kansas. The other children were listed as Oklahoma place of birth.[5]

In 1930, Hannah (58) and William (61) were still living in Independence, at 816 South Eighteenth Street, with only their daughter Viola (15). William was listed as a plumber.[6]

In 1940, Hannah (71) and William (72) were living alone at 708 South Seventeenth Street in Independence.[7]

In 1950, Hannah (80) and William (82) were still in Independence.[8]

Hannah died on May 17, 1953 at her home in Independence and was buried at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Indepence. (I was not able to find her grave on FindAGrave). She was survived by her husband and all ten children.[1]
