Alexander Gatley was born about 1780, and baptised on May 2, 1780 in St Enoder, Cornwall. His parents were William Gatley and Jane. In his baptismal record his first name is given as Ellick.[1][2]
Alexander married Elizabeth Ferrell in Newlyn East, Cornwall, England, on January 29, 1803. Alexander was recorded as a Yeoman his residence described as Sojourner. Witnesses to the marriage were James Terrell and John Williams[3]
In 1824 he was a witness at the marriage of Phillip Coombs (1797-1841) and Mary Ann (Gatley) Coombe (1803-1842) in Saint Agnes.

Alexander died in the December quarter of 1867 in the Parish of Truro aged 92 years[8]
Alexander's first name on his baptism record is given as "Ellick" whether this was short for Alexander, and given as "Alick" but spelt as Ellick is unknown. On all other records throughout his life his first name has been spelt as Alexander. Also his parents surname has been spelt as Gatly (no "e") however, once again, all of Alexander's records show the surname as being spelt "Gatley" - Heneker-11 9 Jan 2024
