John A Gatlin was born on 26 March 1843 in Pulaski, Giles, Tennessee, United States, son of Granville H. Gatlin (1815–1885) and Cyrena Jones (1813–1850).
Served as a private in Company H, 32nd Regiment, Tennessee Infantry during the Civil War.
John married Sarah M. King (born on 13 March 1839 in Tennessee, USA; daughter of Philip W. King and Dorothy Browning). Their known children were:
- William A Gatlin (0 July 1863 – before 1939) .
- James Asa Gatlin (28 January 1865 – 19 January 1953) .
- Louella Gatlin (7 December 1866 – 1 May 1953) .
- Mary J Gatlin (20 August 1869 – 29 November 1881) .
- John H Gatlin (1 August 1879 – 4 August 1899)
John died on 23 December 1914 in Polk, Arkansas, United States, aged 71.[1] He was buried in Old_Dallas_Cemetery,_Dallas,_Arkansas.
