Research Notes

• In 1920, there is a Thomas F Gatts (b. ca. 1911 in Missouri) living with his widowed mother, Margaret Gatts, in Kansas City, Missouri. He has an 11-year-old sister named Grace May, and a married sister named Catherine Hightower w/ her husband, Lloyd. Is this the same Thomas?^[1]

• In 1930, it looks like Grace has married and is living in Liberty, Iowa. 19-year-old Thomas is living with them. However ... the listing says that Grace's mother is in the household, and it gives her name as Violetta Keeler. This doesn't jive with the information on the 1920 Census that gives her and Thomas's mother's name as Margaret.^[2]

• His death record indicates that he was a "Jr." Still trying to track down records for his parents.^[3]

Military Service

• He enlisted in the Army to serve during World War II on 13 Jul 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri^[4]
• He left the Army on 22 Mar 1946 while at Camp Beale, Yuba, California. The Report of Separation notice indicates that he was married.^[5]

Public Records

• There is a public record showing Thomas living in Carrollton, Texas as recently as 2001. His wife Jimmie Nell is listed on the report, as well. This contradicts his death record which says he died in 1995.^[6]
• Another record is found saying that he was living in Matagorda, Texas on 01 Oct 1999. His death record does give Matagorda as the location of his death, but was about four years before this record.^[7]
