John Mills Gedney was the natural son of Ann Gedney of Butterwick in Lincolnshire. He was baptised on 19 Nov 1809 in St Andrew's parish church. [1]
He worked as an Agricultural Labourer and married Elizabeth Lee at Leake on 15 January 1833 (witnesses Baslington Gedney and Charlotte Lee). [2] The family lived in East Kirkby, where their first child Mariah was born, and moved to Leake around 1835. They had five children. John passed away in Leake and was buried on 17 March 1892. He was 83 years old. [3]

Research Notes
1. The 1851 and 1861 Census records list "Frederick" Gedney, but do not list an Edwin. It is likely that Edwin is called Frederick. A baptism record for Frederick has not been found on FreeReg or Family Search (using dob range 1840-1850)
2. Betsey and Fred Gedney in the 1881Census surely cannot be daughter and son of John and Elizabeth; they are too old. They are more likely to be their daughter-in-law and grand son ie Charles Gedney's wife and child.
3. It is possible that Mills was John's father's surname. It is interesting to note that John did not record his middle name in any of the documents sighted in this research.
