Elisabeth was born about 1841. She first appears in the 1841 census as an infant under 1 year old. She was the daughter of Adam Gibson and Catherine Smith. She is also recorded on the 1851 census as a 10 year old scholar and the step daughter of William Wilson whom her mother had married in 1847 after the death of her father. Elisabeth never married and never had any children. She died in the village of Forth, Carnwath parish in 1861, her occupation recorded on her death registration as "Domestic servant".
