Biography

Agnes was born on Nov 17, 1887 the daughter of Andrew GIBSON (1854-1893) and Janet McNAIR (c1856-1890). Her middle name, Scott, is her grandmother’s maiden name. She was likely born in Markham Township, Ontario as that is where her parents lived on a farm. Markham Township was to the north of Scarborough Township which is now a part of Toronto

She is three-years old living with her widowed father on the farm in Markham in the 1891 census. Her parents died young (1890 & 1893) so after their deaths she went to live with her aunt and uncle – Adam Hood (1847-1920) and Isabella (Gibson) Hood (1848-1912). They also farmed in Markham Township. Agnes Scott is found there, at 13-years old, in the 1901 census.

Agnes married David BROWN (1881-1958) sometime before 1908. David Brown, born in September 30, 1881, is included in a list of descendents of David Thomson and Mary Glendinning, the first settlers in Scarborough.

Agnes and David live on a farm in Markham and have four children.

Agnes dies on September 17, 1956. David dies on September 30, 1958. They are buried together in the cemetery at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Markham (6181 Highway #7).
