The 1891 Census recorded John Giddens, a widower, in the household of 46-year-old John Giddens, beerhouse keeper and farmer, and his 54-year-old wife Elizabeth in Chequers Public House at West End, Sutton, Cambridgeshire. Others in the household were the younger John's sons William J. Giddens, age 16 and a railroad clerk, and 9-year-old scholar Herbert Giddens, and John's widowed father John Giddens, age 80. All household members were born at Sutton except for Elizabeth Giddens, who was born at Horningsea, Cambridgeshire.[1]
The death of John Giddens in 1896, at the reported age of 86, was recorded in the Ely registration district.[2]
