Samuel Gifford was the son of Samuel Gifford (1751- abt.1843) and Anna (Tupper)Gifford (1758- abt.1836). On February 18, 1813 he married Dorothy Child (1791- abt. 1830) and had two sons, Thomas C. Gifford (1818-1881) and William Gifford (1821-1887). About 1830, Samuel married his 2nd wife Dorcas Wilcox (1804-1872). They had four children Julia Ann (Gifford) Cushman (1832-1902) Nancy E (Gifford) Southworth (1834-1903) George Gifford (1836-1862) Mary Ann (Gifford) Story (Abt. 1839- Abt. 1880) Vermont vital record indicates Samuel Gifford is buried at Lympus Cemetery in Bethel, Vermont. (Dorcas latter remarried Danforth Abbott).
