Joseph's parents are believed to be[1]
Felix Jefferson Gilbert (21 Feb 1804
Clay County, Kentucky, -21 May 1859) (aged 55)
and
Lucinda Jane Dorton Gilbert
1808–1889 (m. 1828)
The 1900 census for Clay, KY [3]lists Taylor Gilbert and Mollie T Gilbert's household.
Abijah Gilbert Son 18 Kentucky
Lottie Gilbert Daughter 15 Kentucky
Harry Gilbert Son 11 Kentucky
Thomas Gilbert Son 9 Kentucky
Mary Gilbert Daughter 6 Kentucky
Curiously, and with no explanation, In the 1860 Clay Co Ky census, Joseph Taylor Gilbert seems to be identified as Felix T. Gilbert age 19, living with Lucinda age 52, (assumed to be his widowed mother) and Abijah (age 24) certainly his brother, also living in the household is John Collet (age 17, married, farm laborer) whose relationship is not known.(Note there are many, many Felix Gilberts in this part of KY)[4]
In 1870 Taylor lived in Clay, KY with Loucinda Gilbert age 60, certainly his mother, and Alice Gilbert age 16, perhaps his sister. [5]
