"He went to California in 1853 and engaged in mining and cattle raising, was a merchant in San Francisco for a while, is now a capitalist in Auburn, ME."^[1] Shows b. 8 Jun 1833. Dau. b. in CA 1872.

1871-1874^[2] San Francisco City Directory - Gile, (Edwin T.) Hayes (J.J.) & Co. (B. G.Crane) importers and wholesale dealers wines and liquors, 612 Front. also - Gile, Edwin T. dwl 735 Ellis.

San Francisco Call newspaper index for 1869 shows Edwin T. Gile m. Sarah E. Perry. They are listed together in 1870^[3] census, San Francisco, ward 12, San Francisco, California, United States.

1880 census Sumner St., Auburn, Androscoggin, ME age 47 b. ME.^{[citation needed]}

LDS IGI shows b. 28 May 1830.^[4] The year, 1830, appears to have been recorded incorrectly, based on the 1850^[5] census.

In the 1920 census Oakland, Alameda, CA there is an Edward Guile, b. CA 1858.

Burleigh NEHGS file, letter from Joseph Pinkham, names an "E. F. Gile was chosen one of the Directors of the Lewiston Machine Company, Lewiston, Maine, Sept. 15, 1886."
