John Giles was born 31 Aug 1681, the son of Eleazar Giles and Elizabeth Bishop of Salem, Massachusetts^{[1] [2]}

On November 7, 1706, he married Ann Andrews, the daughter of John Andrews Jr and Ann Jacobs of Salem^{[3] [2]}. Their children included^[4]:

1. John Jr, baptized April 9, 1710^{[4] [2]}, who married Mercy Aborne in 1730
2. Mary, baptized August 26, 1711^{[4] [2]}, who may have married George Gould in 1732
3. Likely others (There are other likely children, but the information in the Salem vital records doesn't allow for distinctions between this John Giles and others in Salem at the time^[2]. Its possible that marriage and other records could be used to confirm these relationships.
