Ann Gill arrived as a convict with her young son. She was sentenced to transportation for the crime of stealing a curtain from her employer to buy medicine for her sick son. She left a husband (Mr Jones) behind in England. She and John Walker didn't marry until 1830, maybe after her husband in England had died. She arrived on the convict ship “Speke” She left a husband William Gill at home, London, and older children. Ann was to take up with John Walker of the Hawkesbury and have 3 children by him , John 1810, Henry 1815, and Thomas 1818. Ann later married John Walker in 1830.

Certificate of Freedom Ann Gill. Name: Ann Gill [Wm Gill] Birth Year: 1781 Native Place: London, England. Certificate Date: 10 Oct 1832. Arrival Year: 1808 Vessel: Speke Certificate No.32/957. Hair: Hair black to grey. Height: 5ft,3inches. Complexion: Dark. Eyes: Dark Hazel. Offence: Larceny. Sentence: 7 years.

Note: John and Ann were married at Sackville Reach in 1830. The long delay is believed to have arisen because Ann had a husband (William Gill) in England and she was only free to marry after his death in 1830. She also left behind a Son William Gill born 1806 in England.

Ann Walker married John Walker 22 March 1830 at St. Thomas Church, Ebenezer, NSW.

Ann Walker passed away 20 December 1863, aged 86 years, at MacDonald River.

She was buried 22 December 1863 at St. Albans Old General Cemetery NSW Australia.
