Note: As a young man he was employed by the Bell Telephone Company in Brantford and Montreal. After serving in World War I, he joined the police department in 1919. He was promoted to detective in 1928 and remained in that capacity until hisappointment to the combined court clerk-court reporter-justice of the peace position five years later. He also was deputy chief of police for a time.^[4]
