Sarah was born in Georgia, in about 1804, to Jesse Gilley and Dorcus (possibly a Petersen).[1] Her tombstone gives a precise birthdate of November 27.[2] She is not known to have ever married or had children, and is marked "idiotic" on her parents' 1850 census. Sarah died on July 15, 1855, and is buried at Hopewell Cemetery in Cannon County, Tennessee, near her parents.
