Biography

Frank Glawson was born to John Martin Glawson and Elizabeth Shelnut the 5 October 1813[1]. He married Elizabeth Newcombe 14 July 1836, born 1817 to WIlliam Benjamin Newcomb and Catherine Glawson

The 1871 census of Pope's Harbour[2] has Frank Glawson (65, fisherman) as head of a household with Elizabeth (52), Frank (29), Benjamin (27), Margaret (30), Sylvester (28), Joseph (26), William (24), Vincent (21), Charlotte (20), Alexander (19), Abram (16), Drucilla (14), Lydia (13), Clara (12), James (6), Luisa (1), Samuel (1).

Margaret, Sylvester, William, Clara, and James are all listed as deaf and dumb on the census.

According to one researcher[1]:

Louisa is recorded as age 1 which is an error as she is believed to be the mother of baby Samuel in this family... Elizabeth is too old to have been Samuel's mother, and other information indicates that Louisa was his mother. James is most likely Catherine's child as there is a record in the St. Peter's baptismal register of Catherine Glawson baptizing James William Glawson on May 3, 1863; Elizabeth would have been a little old to give birth to him. Catherine is not listed in the home, and it is possible that she was married and moved away, as there is some records indicating that she married a McLawarce ( McLawrence?). I've never found any back up to that information however, so it is also possible that she was deceased by 1871. She is also recorded in the St. Peter's baptismal register being baptized April 22, 1864 as an adult. I've noticed this happens frequently prior to a marriage. The next year, a Catherine Glawson, married to James McMaraman? baptizes a daughter Bridget on July 16, 1865; she is 3 weeks old.
