The Gadsden Times, page 2, Monday, June 25, 1973: Mrs. Mary Ashworth, 82, Short Jackson Street, died at the residence yesterday after a sudden illness. Survivors, daughter, Mrs. Odell Neese, Chunchula; Mrs. Veneda Ingram, Gadsden; Mrs. Lamar Meadows, Collinsville; sons, Stewart Higgingbotham, Gadsden; Nelson Higgingbotham, Florence; step-sons, James Ashworth, Georgia; Carey Ashworth, Mobile; sisters, Mrs. Bessie Cleland, Gadsden; brother, Reuben Glazner, Leesburg; 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral service tomorrow at South 11th Stret Baptist Church and burial in Crestwood Cemetery. She was a native of DeKalb County and a resident of Etowah County for 15 years. Mrs. Ashworth was a member of South 11th Street Baptist Churh; Ladies Auxiliary Barracks 1237 and South Gadsden Home Demonstration Club. Collier-Butler Funeral Home in charge of arrangments.
